EV charger plans with a load calculation that fits the panel

A charger permit asks whether the existing service can take the new continuous load, and how the circuit gets from the panel to the parking space. AllPEStamp reviews that package and seals it with an electrical engineer licensed in the project state when a PE is required.

  • Home, multifamily, and commercial chargers
  • Load calculation against the existing service
  • Circuit, panel, and site plan for the stall
  • Service upgrade quoted when the panel is full

A house charger and a commercial site are different permits

A single home charger is often a load calculation plus a circuit diagram. Multifamily and commercial sites add a site plan, accessible stalls, and sometimes a new switchboard. Quote the one you are permitting. A sketch of “a charger in the garage” is not the same review as a row of stalls in a lot.

If the load calculation shows the service is full, the charger scope stops being a circuit and becomes a service upgrade. That is called out before the set is sealed, and it can be added to the same quote.

What to upload

Send the charger cut sheet, a photo of the panel schedule, the service size, and a sketch or site plan showing the run to the stall. For a commercial lot, include the parking layout and who owns the service the chargers will use.

Load management equipment can keep a service from growing. If that is the design, include the product data so the calculation uses the managed load rather than the nameplate of every charger at once.

Seal and price

The electrical engineer seals the calculation and the sheets that match it. Structural work for a canopy over the stalls is a separate discipline. Trenching on private property is shown on the site plan. Work in the public right of way is not assumed.

A home charger is a few sheets at $100 per sheet. A commercial bank of chargers is priced on its page count, down to $25 per sheet on large sets. Final pricing is confirmed after plan review.

These are the seals this kind of permit usually asks for. The quote lists only the sheets you upload.

FAQ

Does an EV charger need engineered plans?
A simple home circuit often does not. Cities and landlords ask for a sealed load calculation and a site plan once the charger is commercial, multifamily, or large enough to stress the service. Send the city and the charger size.
What if my panel cannot take the charger?
The calculation will show that. You can add a service upgrade to the quote, or use listed load management if that is allowed for the permit. We do not seal a circuit the panel cannot carry.
Can solar and the charger be one package?
Yes, when they share the service calculation. The structural letter for the roof is still its own review. Ask for both at intake if the permits are going in together.
How much does an EV charger stamp cost?
A single home charger is a short set at $100 per sheet. Commercial sites cost more because the site plan and the switchboard add sheets. The live quote uses your page count.
